Itinerary for our Fullmoon Party Package
Koh Phangan Circumnavigation:
The day begins in Koh Samui, where you will come on board, and we will set sail for Koh Phangan. This island is smaller and more remote than the gorgeous yet bustling island of Samui. Phangan is ideal for snorkelling in its untouched waters and lounging on the private beaches with your group of friends or your sweetheart. We will circumnavigate the shores of this stunning island, stopping at various locations to snorkel, explore, take photos, dine, and sip champagne.
With its thick luscious jungles and mountainous centre and private white sandy beaches along the edges, Koh Phangan is a dream to circumnavigate. This is an ideal day of discovery and adventure, or leisure and relaxation; this depends on your interests, your mood, your fancy.
Captain Luca knows the most idyllic spots to anchor for you to explore; whether it be the clear depths of the sea, the mysteries of the jungle, or the tranquillity of the soft white sand at an intimate beach. We will spend the day at your leisure before enjoying sunset canapes and champagne at a secluded beach before your private yacht delivers you to Haad Rin, the beach that hosts the most famous party in the world, the Koh Phangan Full Moon Party.
The Full Moon Party:
The origin of the Full Moon Party remains an urban mystery. It all began some time before Koh Samui first laid down electric grids in the late 80’s. It had become a rumour among travellers that the exotic beauty of the coast and the bewitching glow of the full moon over the water in the Gulf of Thailand was a sight to behold. Travellers would come in anticipation of the remote wonder of Koh Samui. Here, groups of farangs (foreigners) would pepper the beaches, mingling with locals. Back then, these resorts and bars would be lit up with generators that ran from 6-10pm. Then the restaurants would close, and everyone would go down to the beach with candles to light bonfires.
In this natural beauty, the stars were clear and infinite and so were the phosphoresce that sprayed up around your ankles as you splash along the shoreline in the warm evening breeze. On full moon nights, a sheer blue mist descended on the beach, thickening with each roar of the waves and the sand glowed in a cool silver stretch. People came alive in the coolness of the night and drifted towards the beaches to dance in the light of the rising full moon. As tourism grew, the beaches got fuller and fuller, and the laying down of the power lines cinched the growing popularity, the expanse of travellers come to experience the majestic full moons of Samui.
At some point, small groups started looking to get away from it all and experience the full moon like they used to; around a bonfire on the beach telling stories and sharing substances. So, they piled into fishing boats and set off for the remote, untouched bay of Haad Rin, southernmost peak of the virgin Koh Phangan.
Here, they discovered the Full Moon rising in the velvety night sky and were taken aback by the sheer loveliness of it from this view; from the crescent-shaped beach of Haad Rin, an unparalleled vision, like nothing they had seen yet in all the Gulf of Thailand, which was already well known worldwide for the astounding visual pleasure of the full moon over the water. But this, the first glimpse of the full moon hanging over the horizon, the colours, the ambience, this changed everything.
And so, people started to come. Stories of the magnificent beauty of the full moon gazed at from the southeastern coast of Koh Phangan became famous, and travellers would go by fishing boats, navigated by locals. They would stay in huts, opened to them by the few families who inhabited the coast. Music would play from the restaurants on the beach, and everyone dances into the night.
And then came the fire throwers and the scarf dancers and the tribal drummers; the colours and the body painting and the mind-altering drugs; the reggae music, the techno vibes, the house beats and the trance; the exotic food and the drink buckets and the throbbing masses of travellers. Now, these beach parties host anywhere from 10 to 30 thousand people at any given Full Moon Party and this experience is a must for anyone travelling in the south of Thailand and enjoys this kind of fun. The Full Moon Party is always very crowded and therefore travelers go to Koh Phagnan several days in advance to secure lodging, and then they wait for the party to begin.
Captain Luca offers the luxury of a private 52-foot yacht charter; sailing into Haad Rin Bay on the evening of the full moon after a day circumnavigating Koh Phangan and mooring for the night while you experience the party. You are encouraged to join the party and live out your wild beach/jungle adventure dreams, and you are just as welcome to enjoy the party from the comfortable luxury of the yacht.
It is entirely your choice how you want to experience this event. If you are touring with your friends, you may wish to have your own private full moon party nestled in the party bay in the comfort of the Independence yacht. Or, perhaps you and your sweetheart would prefer to moor further away, under the stars, an intimate distance from the uproarious event on the beach. Maybe you want to abandon the boat and row to shore on the dinghy to experience the Full Moon Party first hand.
Please note, the Full Moon Party is optional, and we are more than happy to moor the boat in a more tranquil bay.
